Volunteer Opportunities
Over 100 volunteers from across the country help the Nebraska Association of Student Councils provide year-round services for Nebraska's young leaders. The NASC Volunteer Staff is an energetic, high-achieving group that's always looking for new volunteers to help promote leadership in Nebraska. We'd like you to consider joining us!
We provide the following services on behalf of NASC:
- Senior High Summer Leadership Workshops
- Junior High and Middle Level (JAM) Summer Leadership Workshop
- Advanced Leadership Workshop
- One-Day Workshops throughout the school year
- State & District Convention assistance
- NASC Web and Print Publications
If you are a current high school senior or high school graduate, you are eligible to apply for the NASC Volunteer Staff. You do not have to have attended an NASC event to join staff. You do need to have a passion for youth leadership, and you do need the time to commit to training and following through on responsibilities.
- General Selection and Training
GST is for current high school seniors or college-age students who wish to lead co-ops at the summer leadership workshops. Staffers selected through GST go through an intensive, six-month training in NASC curriculum, as well as all other aspects of the Volunteer Staff (committee leadership, one-day workshops, etc.). The GST process for 2006-07 will be highly selective, beginning with a panel interview in Omaha the weekend of September 16-17. If you are selected to join the Volunteer Staff, you will be expected to participate in an orientation session, three training sessions, two of three all-staff meetings, as well as the "Weekend at Wayne" planning meeting in mid-June. You will then be eligible to lead co-ops, chair committees, and share your talents in other ways.
Applications for the Volunteer Staff GST process must be received or postmarked by August 31, 2006, c/o the address below.
- Special Selection and Training
SST is for volunteers who are 1) college graduates, or 2) interested in providing specific services to NASC other than leading co-ops (e.g., Web design and editing, workshop music, writing curriculum, audio-visual production, etc.). SST participants will go through a shorter, more focused training process that is built around the service(s) they wish to perform. Applications for the Volunteer Staff SST process are accepted year-round on an ongoing basis, c/o the address below.
